Refurbished Tech Creates Meals for Hungry Children
Used electronics may not have much value in some business settings, but the assortment of outdated items in our inventory was anything but trash. Employees cashed in on the goods and our Technology Services (TS) elves used the profits to help stuff bags for hungry youth.
Through the sale of refurbished iPads, tablets, phones and other electronics, our TS team raised $2,045, then donated their earnings to Blessings in a Backpack, a local non-profit chapter that helps fight food insecurity for about 275 students in area elementary schools. The organization’s mission is to mobilize communities, individuals and resources to provide food on the weekends for school-aged children who might otherwise go hungry.
During the 2022–2023 school year, Blessings in a Backpack distributed more than 3.3 million bags of ready-to-eat food to children at 1,270 schools in 46 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. On average, $175 will feed one child on the weekends for one 38-week school year through Blessings in a Backpack. The result: nourished kids ready to learn. Food is an essential building block and, in this case, a true blessing, especially to a hungry child.
