Sharpe Receives Distinguished Alumnus Award
For his outstanding service to Xavier and the greater Cincinnati community, HCL® Owner Gary Sharpe (MBA ’78) was honored with the distinguished alumnus award during Xavier University's 2025 Spring Commencement. He also was awarded with an honorary Doctor of Humanities degree from the university in 2016, the same year he served as commencement speaker.
"Innovation sits at the heart of our Jesuit Catholic mission and Gary has demonstrated a firm commitment to that," said Xavier President Colleen Hanycz. "Gary and (his wife) Connie have used philanthropy to help Xavier produce the next generation of forward-thinking entrepreneurs, nurses and physicians. We are incredibly grateful to the Sharpe family for their continued support."
When asked for his advice to the newest class of innovators and today’s engineers, his response was brief, yet compelling.
“Tinker around … all the time.”
A simple phrase, but a powerful mindset from a leader who knows that curiosity and persistence are the driving force of progress.
Join us in congratulating Gary on this well-deserved recognition!
